Steven Kornmeyer, born in Stuttgart, Germany and raised in Long Island, New York, had the great fortune to see more of the world than most because his father worked for Pan American Airline. This expanded view of the planet informs all that he sets his mind to.
Steven says that his uncle, a passionate artist and ballet dancer, inspired him to pursue the arts. Growing up, he sketched and painted in his free time when he wasn’t playing soccer. At 12, during a trip to Hong Kong, he purchased his first Minolta film camera and a few lenses. Steven figured out how to harness photography to capture and express emotion. Steven studied the medium throughout his school years, honing his darkroom skills along the way.
In the late 70’s and early 80’s, with the onset of computers, Steven put his technical education in electrical and computer engineering (in the field of flight simulation) to work. He created “visual databases” for flight simulators, drawing on his artistic abilities along the way. Although his career took off, it restricted his artistic expression.
Today, with the arrival of the digital age, Steven is back in the game, producing imagery that commands attention and thrills the viewer.
