Catherine Ames was born in a small village in French speaking Switzerland in 1962. She fell in love with photography at 11, and the darkroom at 14.
After working on Swiss country and mountain farms until the age of 21, she moved to Colorado for college, majoring in sociology with a minor in photography. Social work in Denver was followed by filmmaking in San Francisco and at the Art Institute there. But her original love of photography never disappeared.
Catherine is a virtuoso. She has 25 years of black and white photography experience in the darkroom, the last 8 in large format landscapes, including 10 years as a commercial photographer in San Francisco, with travel though 40 countries worldwide. On 9/11/01 she lost her darkroom and flat in lower Manhattan so she decided to relocate to England. And quite unexpectedly, with the purchase of a brand new laptop computer and digital camera she discovered…color!
Catherine is a single mother of two, living in and loving London, still and always making her own personal image of the world with the help of a lens and a virtual paintbrush. Masterfully.
