Bart Stephens was raised near Lake Tahoe, California in a quaint country town called Pollock Pines. Growing up in Northern California, Bart was awed by the beauty and majesty of Mother Nature. Surrounded by dogwood, pine, and fir trees, Bart spent more of his time outside than in. During high school and college, he focused on playing baseball and getting good grades. But nature kept calling and Bart found his true passion through horticulture.

In 2004, Bart began working at a wholesale nursery in Sacramento, California. As his knowledge and love for plants grew, Bart started capturing nature on film. His hobby became a profession and he started selling photographs, first, to friends and family, and then at farmers markets and florist shops.  In 2006, Bart and long time friend Jesse Dudan envisioned and built a website featuring each others photography.  They named it Photogenetik™. Bart continues his deep commitment to horticulture, earning a prestigious California Certified Nursery Professional Certificate in the summer of 2006.
